My current job is based on a farm at the top of a hill in between the suburban towns of Woodley and Romiley. Apart from being a pretty nice place to work, perks include charity shopping, incredible views and encounters with donkeys.
I've been getting a ride in from Levenshulme but my ex-lifter has just brought a house in Cheadle (this is no tragedy as I've had two bikes stolen from our meeting point).
So now I have a new route, via Belle Vue railway station. On the whole it's classic East Manchester industrial wasteland, but with the added oddities of a greyhound racing stadium/motorbike speedway, and a giant light-up cinema sign.
I particularly liked a train conductor's recent comment - "You're getting off here? But noone gets off here".
